If you’re ready to break free from an alcohol addiction, starting your recovery in our inpatient alcohol rehab at Evolve Recovery can be a great first step. This safe, substance-free environment allows you to heal without distraction, surrounded by a supportive team of experts who can help you reach your goals.

Alcohol Addiction and When Rehab Is Needed

Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop an alcohol use disorder (AUD). However, there are several signs that could indicate your drinking has developed into an addiction, and professional treatment is necessary to restore your quality of life.

If you have difficulty controlling your urge to drink, spend most of your time preoccupied with alcohol, or continue to drink despite the negative consequences it brings, you could have an AUD, also called alcoholism. As your addiction progresses, you may find that you have to drink more to achieve the same effect. You may also experience uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms when you try to quit.

Alcoholism can lead to short- and long-term effects on your personal health and safety, as well as those around you. If you feel that your drinking has developed into an addiction, it’s time to seek help. Starting your recovery in an alcohol rehab like ours gives you access to around-the-clock clinical care as you attend treatment and commit to sobriety.

Understanding Alcohol Use Disorder

It’s important to understand that AUD is a spectrum disorder. This means that it can range from mild to moderate to severe in nature. Mild means you meet two to three of the criteria for AUD, moderate means you meet four to five, and severe means you meet at least six.

Some of the most common symptoms of alcoholism include:

  • An inability to limit the amount of alcohol you consume
  • Spending most of your time drinking or thinking about your next drink
  • A desire to cut back on drinking, but an inability to do so
  • Missing important obligations at work, home, or school due to drinking
  • Reducing time spent on hobbies and interests due to drinking
  • Consuming alcohol in unsafe situations, such as during pregnancy or when driving

As a central nervous system depressant, alcohol can have significant effects on the parts of your brain that control movement, speech, and critical thinking. You might be more willing to engage in risky, unsafe activities like drinking and driving or having unprotected sex when you’re under the influence. Longer term, alcohol can also have a major impact on your health, leading to conditions such as liver disease, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal inflammation, and more.

Often, individuals with an AUD will try to quit on their own. However, detoxing from alcohol alone can be unsafe and dangerous due to the painful withdrawal symptoms and potential for complications. It’s always best to detox under the care and supervision of a medical team who can monitor your progress, keep you comfortable, and intervene as necessary.

Alcohol Detox and Medical Support

As you reduce your alcohol intake during withdrawal, you may experience uncomfortable symptoms, especially during the first 24 hours. While everyone’s experience is unique, some of the most common side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Anxiety
  • Increased heart rate
  • High blood pressure
  • Tremors

In severe cases, withdrawal symptoms can lead to a life-threatening condition known as delirium tremens. These symptoms can appear 48 to 72 hours after your last drink and may include:

  • Body tremors
  • Extreme anxiety or agitation
  • Hallucinations
  • Psychosis
  • Seizures

Supervised alcohol detox at our partner facility, Sunrise Detox, helps reduce these risks and improves your safety throughout the withdrawal process. Your medical team can step in at the first sign of complications, taking measures to relieve your pain, minimize your cravings, and reduce your risk of relapse. This may include the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using FDA-approved medications to improve your comfort levels.

When you’re ready to step down into a less-intensive level of care, we can connect you with local providers and help you make that transition. We also support adults who are still grappling with post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS) after completing alcohol detox elsewhere.

Symptoms of PAWS can include confusion, memory impairment, emotional dysregulation, depression, and others. We’ll help you overcome this condition, providing further medical and mental health treatment to support long-term sobriety.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment at Evolve

All of our treatment plants at Evolve Recovery are customized to each client’s individual needs. We perform an initial assessment to learn more about your health, addiction history, and recovery goals, then use that data to create a course of action just for you.

Some of the services we offer at our residential alcohol rehab include individual therapy, group counseling, and family counseling. We encourage your loved ones to be involved throughout every stage of your recovery. Treatment outcomes improve when individuals have a strong home environment that acknowledges and supports their efforts.

All of our treatments are rooted in proven, evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed counseling.

Holistic and Lifestyle Support

At Evolve Recovery, we address alcohol addiction as a whole-person condition. We understand that in addition to its physical effects, it can also have an impact on your mental, behavioral, and emotional health.

Your therapy sessions will address these co-occurring conditions, allowing you to dive deeply into what leads you to drink and explore healthier ways to cope with stress and other triggers. We also offer life skills training and relapse prevention courses to prepare you for life outside of rehab.

Our team recognizes and emphasizes the impact of good nutrition, established routines, and holistic wellness activities on your overall health. Your treatment plan will include activities to nurture your mind, body, and spirit so you can heal from the inside out.

Aftercare and Long-Term Recovery Planning

Our support doesn’t stop when your treatment ends. Once your time at Evolve is complete, our discharge planning process ensures you stay connected to outpatient and community-based resources that can support your sobriety.

We offer continuing care services to support your ongoing needs, as well as access to our expansive alumni network. This network shares updates, plans activities, and will stay in touch with you to check in on your recovery and encourage your growth.
