Resolutions vs. Solutions in 2022

December 31, 2021

Hello, my name is Michele. I am writing this as a person who has been given the gift of recovery. Throughout my 10 years of recovery, I have had the privilege of working in the treatment community. Being a counselor is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had because I can give back what was so freely given to me. Working at Evolve Recovery Center is an honor. I work alongside people who genuinely care about the lives of suffering addicts and their families and friends.

With 2022 approaching, I thought it best to discuss resolutions and solutions. A resolution is a firm decision to do something, but a solution is a means of solving a problem. Let’s work together on sharing with those suffering from substance use disorder and focus on solutions. Making the decision to admit that help is needed should be commended and acknowledged as courageous. It is difficult to make the choice to never use a substance again. Although honestly, that’s the easy part, the hard part is dealing with life without using substances.

At first, dealing with the emotions of life without the use of substances feels impossible. However, we must help the recovering addict realize that they are not alone in this. With the assistance of dedicated counselors and the support of those in their life, every problem has a solution, and they NEVER have to use substances again. It is a group effort. But they are not alone, and neither are you, so let’s make some New Year solutions together.
